LOUDSPEAKERS

DBL £15,000

The Naim DBL completely redefines the performance of large loudspeakers and the boundaries of audio systems in general.

We have adapted and enhanced our separate box technology to produce a fully-decoupled, three-way, dynamic loudspeaker of awesome power and clarity, which also maintains superlative control over its very wide bandwidth. It sacrifices nothing in terms of speed, focus, or fine musical detail.

A massive fifteen-inch bass driver mounted in its own enclosure is vented downwards into the large L-shaped chamber which forms the main body of the loudspeaker and includes the integral stand. Between these two cabinets is a new version of our unique precision acoustic resistance unit, which precisely controls the movement of air between the two.

The top cabinet houses the midrange driver and the tweeter, both of which receive individual decoupling treatments; the tweeter by its own suspension plate mounting, and the midrange driver by slotting and damping the cabinet front panel itself.

The size and enormous performance potential of the DBL has demanded the most ruthless control of unwanted resonances, successfully achieved through extensive use of our computer-aided design facilities. Each loudspeaker employs thirty separate damping systems, each driver is individually selected and computer matched, and acoustic materials are delicately weighed to an accuracy of less than one gram. The result is a loudspeaker of outstanding sensitivity, allowing it to be driven with relative ease. The DBL can be used in both active or passive mode. Passive operation requires our PXO3 crossover unit, while an active set-up uses the SNAXO 362 electronic crossover and either three stereo or six mono amplifiers.

The performance of the DBL needs to be experienced to be believed. Low frequency articulation, extension, attack and transient recovery place it in a class of its own. The superb, expansive midband clarity and the sheer delicate power of the high frequencies come together to present music as a seamless whole. Listening to the Naim DBLs can be a very emotional experience as they bring a completely new sense of scale and presence to performances at all listening levels. They will also provide unique insights into your music and the recording environment, revealing characteristics of both player and instrument, timbre and intonation which you may never have appreciated before.

All of this is achieved with a complete lack of fuss or strain on either you or the loudspeaker. The Naim DBL - when only the very best will do.

SL2 £6,150

The SL2 is a compact package of speed, precision and musical coherence

It represents an extension of the Naim loudspeaker design philosophies that were pioneered fourteen years ago with the release of the original Naim SBL, wherein separate boxes are used for the bass unit and its loading chamber.

The two cabinets are separated by a PAR (precision acoustic resistance), a Naim innovation that ensures consistent and accurate loading of the bass drive unit, irrespective of loudness, providing an ideal acoustic performance not possible in conventionally configured loudspeakers. The larger cabinet acoustically loads the bass-mid driver giving the precision and control of a small loudspeaker combined with the power, bandwidth and dynamic range of a much larger box.

Cabinet colorations and resonances are further controlled and reduced by the application of Naim's thermally stable aluminium mass dampers to the internal walls. The decoupled cast aluminium plinth provides essential stability and controls the critical interface between loudspeaker and floor. A combination of curved and non-parallel surfaces reduces internal standing waves and creates a visually stunning loudspeaker, available in a range of modern, real wood veneers.

The Naim designed and manufactured bass-mid drive unit features a computer modelled aluminium chassis and split-mass aluminium phase plug, improving heat dissipation and providing exceptional power handling over a wide frequency range. The wide-dispersion Scan-Speak tweeter was chosen for its ultimate sound quality after exhaustive comparisons. Another Naim innovation for the SL2 is the arm, attached at the mechanically stable aluminium plinth and totally separate from the rest of the loudspeaker, that holds the tweeter. This provides the ideal mechanical situation for the tweeter, making it completely free of interference from the mid and bass frequencies, allowing for the ultimate high frequency performance.

The passive crossover is decoupled from the rear panel of the speaker by anti-vibration mounts, protecting it from microphonic disturbances. Being sited externally also allows for easy removal and use of the SL2 in fully active systems.

The SL2 is designed to be consistent, easy to set up and ensure high levels of performance in every situation. The virtual absence of cabinet resonance and mechanical interference provides a startling yet totally natural musical clarity.

Allae £2,450

The Allae offers truly stunning musical performance that will always enhance the pleasure of your listening experience.

Technically this speaker has many features of interest, including the separation of the drive units within their own enclosures, which is now a standard feature of Naim designs reducing mechanical interference and thereby enabling predictable acoustic performance not possible in normally configured loudspeaker designs.

The critical interface between the speaker and the floor is controlled by means of a leaf-spring and cast aluminium, spiked stand fitted to the base of the cabinet.

Installation and assembly of the Allae is simplicity itself, with the bass/mid cabinet sitting neatly on Naim PIPs (precision interface pins) mounted on the top face of the bottom cabinet.

The PIPs define the air gap between the two cabinets, providing a controlled distributed reflex port, which is free of the usual turbulence problems. The bass alignment has been chosen to allow the speakers to be used either against a wall or out in the room, depending on the listenerâ?™s preferences and room acoustics.

Acoustically the bass/mid driver is loaded by the larger lower cabinet which houses the high frequency unit and to which the passive crossover is attached. The wide dispersion Scan 19mm HF unit is isolated further by mounting on a sprung plate, acting as a mechanical filter between cabinet and driver.

Mass aluminium dampers are another Naim first : thermally stable mass dampers are used on the Allae drive units and internal cabinet panels to reduce resonance.

Featuring a computer modelled cast aluminium chassis, the Allae 200mm bass unit is fitted with a split-mass aluminium phase correction device, which also improves heat dissipation and power handling.

Standards of manufacture, as always with Naim products, equal those of design from perfect matching of drive units down to delicate measurements of acoustic materials.

Visually the Allae is excellent and is available in a range of modern, real wood veneers.

Headline HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER £325

The Headline is an amplifier designed to offer optimum performance from a variety of high impedance headphones.

Fitted with a captive lead, the Headline takes its signal from the tape socket of any of our pre-amplifiers. It has its own volume control and is designed to be very, very quiet. It has the ability to drive most headphones to an adequate level (loud!) with low distortion.

Headphones tend to be rather revealing of both noise and distortion, so we have spent a great deal of effort getting these parameters to extremely low levels.

The Headline needs to be used with an external power supply - both the iSupply (H) and NAPSC are suitable. If using a Flat-Cap 2x, Hi-Cap or Super-Cap you will also need a special interconnect, type SLIC.

  • Suitable for headphones 8 Ohms to 2 KOhms
  • Frequency response -3dB @ 10Hz & 72kHz
  • Power output (into 8 OhMs) 560mW per channel
  • Max output voltage 3.7V rms into 2kOhms
  • Voltage gain +13.5dB
  • Dimensions (H x W x D): 57 x 121 x 187mm
