Mystro
Integrated Amplifer
£1255
The Sugden Mystro series amplifier is the introductory
model to a world of ‘simply more music’.
An
integrated amplifier including a phono stage and three line
level inputs, with a nominal 50 watts per channel AB output
stage, it comprises many innovative audio circuits which
are a distillation of Sugden's current development
programme. This is a wondrously musical amplifier with a
very special pre-amp stage. The low level listening
performance is exceptional and can be compared to
amplifiers of much greater expense. Fast and dynamic with
tremendous tone burst potential and broad speaker
tolerance, the amplifiers performance will amaze and
enthral listeners with its musical integrity.

The Mystro has, by design, an excellent ‘green’ pedigree -
fully metal cased, housing RoHs compliant components, it
requires very low quiescent and operating power.
The Mystro amplifier is a very fast and dynamic amplifier
whilst still retaining the hallmark of all Sugden products
- fatigue-free listening. A superb portrayor of natural
instruments, because of the fatigue-free sound it is also
particularly suitable for reproducing popular music. The
power output amplifier is an AB design which has been
developed over many years to give the best compromise
between Class ‘A’ and Class ‘B’ type of operation. The
power amplifiers are configured as dual mono output stages
with low impedance power supplies to ensure excellent bass
timing. The circuitry has been tuned to give an extended
high frequency clarity, with purpose and punch, to deal
with some of the latest digital recording techniques.
Tremendous headroom has also been included in the tone
burst capabilities of the 125 watt, multi-emitter, bi-polar
output devices.
The Sugden Mystro embodies truly advanced and innovative
audio circuitry developed to its ultimate level, value
engineered and subjectively mastered, to create a
wonderously musical amplifier.
A21
Series 2 Amplifier
£1649
Sugden's
first commercial amplifier was the A21 in the mid-1960s. It
is generally recognised as the first commercial, solid
state Pure Class A amplifier to be available for audio
enthusists. It was a very special amplifier with a
single-ended Class A output configuration and current
feedback. This design concept did not appear generally in
commercial audio amplifiers until over a decade later.
Capable of recreating a musical performance well in advance
of its peers, it made the name of Sugden synonymous with
musical performance. The true potential of the output
configuration was realised in the 1980s when it was coupled
to modern components, reduced internal filtering and multi
emitter solid state output devices.

The result was an amplifier of extended and more controlled
bass and treble but still retaining the wonderfully
detailed mid range of the original design. The amplifier
became the A21a, a reference amplifier on many continents.
Further improvements have achieved significant enhancement
of performance and the amplifier has been rebranded as the
Sugden A21a Series 2.
A21SE
Amplifier
£2439
The
A21SE is a further expansion of the musical performance
available from the Sugden single ended Class A output
circuitry. Designed to provide more power output, greater
speaker compatibility and a larger sound stage, it is not
an uprated A21 Series 2 but a definitive amplifier in its
own right.

The SE contains a pre-amp stage with high input impedance,
high voltage gain, low noise, wide bandwidth, low
distortion and low impedance to drive the Class A power
stages. This pre-amp stage coupled to a fifty percent
increase in the low impedance power supply enables a very
dynamic sound stage to be developed with pin point imaging
and fine tonal balance. An amplifier of unforced
spontaneity which will satisfy the most discerning
enthusiast with ‘simply more music’.
The
A21SE is a line level input integrated amplifier without an
integrated phono stage option. Sugdens are pleased to offer
optional phono stages.
Masterclass
IA-4 Integrated Amplifier
£4135
The largest and most powerful integrated amplifier in the
Sugden family which takes advantage of the initial Sugden
class A output configuration. The Pure Class A solid state
output stage equipped with greater power from a
custom-built transformer and low impedance supply can
project and fill an enormous holographic sound stage with
‘simply more music’.

An extraordinary, organic, euphonic, acoustic performance,
achieved by the integration of a state of the art
preamplifier and the classic Sugden Class A output stage.
The integrated system of pre-amp and power amp driven by
individual power supplies enables the ultimate in musical
performance. Just listen - you will find it worth more than
a thousand words. Despite the high power installed, Sugden
have included an MM phono stage of extremely high quality.
Masterclass
Power Amplifiers
SPA-4
£4135
MPA-4
£8270
The stereo power amplifier SPA-4 and its big brother, mono
power amplifier MPA-4, have been developed to present a
holographic three dimensional soundstage where the listener
can almost walk in and touch the musicians. Tremendous
headroom is available in which to develop a wonderfully
dynamic portrayal of music in all of its moods - ‘simply
more music’.

The stereo power amp has facilities for asymmetric
(phono/RCA) or balanced inputs, the latter utilising a
virtual transformer (discreet) balanced input circuit. The
power amplifiers are symmetrical, current feedback,
dc-coupled, gain stages with servo controlled dc off-set
and multi emitter output devices. In the balanced mono amps
the two power output stages of the stereo power amp are
connected in balanced mode giving a mono amplifier. The
mono amplifiers give single channel power twice that of the
stereo amps. Among some of the gains of the balanced
configuration is a much lower noise floor, even greater
dynamics and a rock solid musical sound stage.
Masterclass
PA-4 Phono Amplifier
£1595
The
full potential of the musical magic contained on vinyl
discs can only be realised by the passionate treatment of
the low level signals emanating from the disc and stylus.
Class A circuitry is renowned for its recovery of and
synergy with, low level signals and Sugdens is synonymous
with Class A circuitry. This combination is fully exploited
in the, PA-4, dual mono, two stage, Class A Phono
amplifier. The two stages are the moving coil pre-amplifier
and the moving magnet, RIAA-correction amplifier.

The moving coil stage is a Class A current feedback circuit
and the moving magnet amplifier a Class A voltage feedback
circuit incorporating the RIAA correction in the negative
feedback loop. DC servo circuits enable direct coupling of
the musical signal from moving coil input to final output.
The power supply which Sugdens considers an integral part
of the amplifier circuitry is a ‘current shunt’ design with
a specially designed voltage regulator to prevent rising
impedance with higher frequencies.
Constructed with components of exceptional quality, hand
assembled on long term stability gold plated circuit
boards, the resultant performance is a phono stage of
absolute transparency and natural sound.
The user interfaces are all externally selected i.e. input
selection 1x MM, 2x MC, the latter with external loading
facilities. There are two stereo outputs for recording or
line amplifier.
Masterclass
LA-4 Pre-amplifier
£2950
The Sugden Masterclass LA-4 is a line level stereo
pre-amplifier with authority, finesse and the capability to
develop a sound stage with imaging, dimensional realism,
and time/space elements in perfect harmony. The units
primary function is ‘Simply More Music’ with a neutrality
to allow end users to choose mating components and obtain
customised performance.

The LA-4 was developed to complement the Sugden Masterclass
Power Amplifiers and at its heart has dual mono,
dc-coupled, Class A, current feed back gain stages. The
gain stages are each powered by current shunt differential
power supplies which enable the fastest transients and most
powerful crescendos with true musical empathy.
The LA-4 has provision for stereo pairs of balanced inputs,
four single ended RCA (phono) inputs, a By-Pass input,
Input and output recording facility, two main pre-amp
outputs and a balanced output.
