Acoustic Solid of Germany, sometimes also referred to as
Wirth Tonmaschinenbau GmbH have been manufacturing
turntables for almost 10 years.
The
quality of their workmanship is superb, and the family run
business with 2 generations working together have enviable
complimentary skills. Karl Wirth and his son-in-law Bruno,
design and manufacture all the turntables themselves, in
their new purpose built facility in the heart of Rural
Germany. Their range is as extensive as their knowledge on
how to get the most out of a given design. Using outboard
"string" drives on all of the turntables, rumble is kept to
an absolute minimum, whilst wow and flutter are controlled
by the mass of the platter and the exquisitely designed
bearing, cast and molded by Karl.
All turntables are hand made just as with our British
manufacturers, this means a precise fit to all parts even
if a very slight variability between decks can be noticed
if several identical models are put next to each other, but
then this is a luxury only a distributor or manufacturer
will see, and to you the end user you are getting a
turntable that has had Karl and Bruno each put there own
time and effort into to bring you a turntable that is
worthy of your hard earned pennies.
Royal
£7,400
The
top of the range statement from Acoustic Solid. The Royal
is the culmination of the development and research Karl has
put into his own distinctive brand of turntables. With
superb rigidity required in all good solid turntables the
design offers a true statement in the dynamism of the vinyl
replay medium. The structure of the music has to be heard
to be appreciated from the Royal, offering the truest of
illusions to the listener. After all its a replay medium
that is there to try and fool you into believing you the
artists are in your own listening room. The Royal achieves
all of this and more.

The use of the Acoustic Solid Microprocessor control unit
aids in the speed control of the platter, and allows on the
fly speed changes, removing the need to change the string
line to a lower pulley level.

refined playbacjk that will leave you shocked with the

Reviewed extensively in Europe to praise you would expect
from an offering at HIAudio, The Solid Machine oozes
quality and engineering excellence. Suitable for up to
three tonearm's.
"Karl Wirth is particularly proud of the platter bearing.
He makes use of the so called SKC non-frictional coatings,
which are characterised above all by their precision,
resistance to wear and running properties. The result is
that there are no unpleasant jerks in the operating
elements when the turntable starts up. It also avoids. "the
onset of after-running, caused by tension release. The use
of the right kind of lubrication - high quality oils are a
must - reduces the wear of the non-frictional coating to a
minimum. SKC non-frictional coatings are not damaged by
unfavourable operating conditions such as faulty
lubrication and can therefore not seize up. "Moreover,
tolerance levels, which Karl Wirth puts at three
thousandths of a millimetre should ensure that no play is
apparent anywhere in the whole bearing."
