S2K

The S2K is the entry level all-valve amplifier from Unison
Research and offers excellent value for money for a purist,
well-built valve amplifier. The S2K was developed from the
original S2, but now uses two classic KT88 valves (one per
channel) in single ended mode. It is a brilliant
introduction to the world of single ended amplification as
it offers all the traits of a high end tube amp such as
transparency and detail but at a very affordable price. It
is supplied with a remote control.
Unison Research S2K is a pure Class-A, single-ended
integrated amplifier using the KT-88 power output valve. A
legend amongst audiophiles, the KT88 is capable of giving
outstanding performance, but in the past has generally been
employed in push-pull designs for extra power at the
expense of refinement.
When used in single-ended mode however, the power output
from each KT88 is a generous 16 Watts, and the benefits to
sound quality are quite remarkable. In S2K this excellent
valve reveals its true potential, providing fine detail,
transparency, speed, depth and a very wide tonal palette.

Hailed by Hi-Fi World as “easily the best tube amplifier at
the price”, the S6 is a Class-A design that uses six EL34
power valves to create 33W per channel in triple-parallel
single ended mode. Again, offering superb value for money,
the S6 features typical build quality and styling of a
classic Unison product and features a sound full of both
refinement and authority. The S6 is supplied with a lift-up
protective grill and radio frequency volume remote control.
The preamplifier stage consists of two directly coupled
triode valves.
The output stage uses three EL 34-type valves for each
channel, connected together in triple-parallel
configuration and operating in single-ended Class-A
ultralinear mode.
The output transformer - in the Unison Research® tradition
- has been specially designed and handmade in our own
workshops. It allows a very wide frequency response
together with the highest possible sound quality.
Outputs are provided to cater for loudspeakers of both 4
and 8 Ohms.
The mains power supply transformer is of generous
proportions and will provide all the energy that may be
needed by the amplifier under all conditions of use.
During the development stage, great care was taken to
design for the absolute minimum number of components in the
audio signal path, and thereby allow a close approach to
the theoretical ideal of unimpeded signal flow.
Last but not least, all connections to both inputs and
outputs are gold plated, which will ensure excellent
electrical contact over the lifetime of the product.

incredibly reasonable price. It uses two legendary 845
valves (one per channel) in its pure triode output stage to
create a healthy 24W of pure single-ended power. Sound-wise

brief, we have chosen to use four KT88 power valves in the
output stage - two per channel - configured in pure class-A
parallel single-ended mode. This provides 30 watts of power
with considerable driving ability and quite exquisite
musicality. P30K is in short, a powerful yet refined
performer.
Extra
versatility
Uniquely for an amplifier of this type, the output may be
switched externally to give 6o watts of mono power whilst
still maintaining its class-A single-ended mode of
operation. And in order to allow perfect matching with all

cater for vinyl replay. This is based on a pure class-A,
passive RIAA circuit using three twin-triode valves and is

rubber suspension to reduce microphone noise.
