Of all vintage valve amplifiers, the Quad II has to be the
most famous and the most written about. It became so
important to its maker that it actually changed the
company's name!
The QUAD II power amplifier is arguably the most publicized
vintage valve amplifier of all time, the classic highly
desirable QUAD II valve power amplifiers in pretty much
original condition. Their original specification of
10-50,000 Hz within .5 dB is still very hard to match.The
QUAD II is fast becoming scarce with very few stereo pairs
offered for sale.These benchmark classic 15 watt mono
blocks were first introduced in 1953 and have been a
benchmark ever since. They have a wonderful romantic sound
that anyone who has owned will testify.
This Quad II's come complete as pictured with 4

Romulus
has set new standards in valve amplification, which others
now strive hard to reproduce. The unusual circuit technique
ensures total symmetry around the output stage, which
formed the basis of this amplifier and continues to form
the basis of many CR products.
Attention to finish and exterior detail matches the
electronic quality of this product, making it an
exceptional and acceptable item in any surroundings.
Romulus will provide sufficient power to comfortably drive
most loudspeakers and is often used with relatively
insensitive 88dB SPL loudspeakers in the Company listening
room. Five inputs can be selected using the front panel
control, although the switching can be bypassed and the
amplifier connected directly to a pre-amplifier if desired.
Tube sockets are hard wired to the circuit board to
guarantee reliability and isolate other components from
heat stress, thus making Romulus an exceptionally reliable
and durable piece of equipment. Exterior stainless steel
panels retain their high-gloss finish, as does the
high-gloss black chassis. Occasional light dusting will
keep the product in top condition for many years.

amplifier is closely related to the Stereo 50 model, which
at first glance looks quite similar. The external
differences are:
- The Stereo 60 has an input attenuator switch (some later Stereo 50 units also have these)
- The first stage valve socket is mounted above the chassis instead of from below
- A power supply filter choke was included in the Stereo 60 in the middle of the chassis. In the photo above the round can in the middle is where the filter choke is located. It has been reported (but not confirmed) that some Stereo 60 units had a large choke (like that shown), but most were much smaller that this.
